The Blob
I'm melting...I'm melting.....
Chuck Russell is and has always been an inventive director. Hidden behind the splattering of blood and guts lies a thoughtful and artistic master.
The Blob or Le Blob as the French like to call it, a remake of a b movie (in many ways the remake is still a b movie - but grade A), lures you into a false sense of security. The opening sequences of a quiet small town are beautifully shot and an eerie soundtrack adds to the build up. You are introduced to the usual suspects - The heroine, the hero, the police chief, the hobo, the mechanic etc, quietly and efficiently before hitting you with a speeding train full of brains and entrails. I love this film and with a certain nostalgic view still think it holds up now. The special effects are spectacular and inventive and it gives you a good few urgh moments; beautiful!
I advise you to watch this one with your parents so they then understand what a sicko you really are. ‘Is this the sweet film with Steve McQueen dear?’ … ‘No mom, you’ll never want to clear the plug hole again.’ (hehehe)
