The Machine Girl (2008)

It’s payback time!!!

Oh how I love Japanese revenge movies; especially if they involve machine gun toting girls who will stop at nothing to exact highly inventive revenge on various horrible characters throughout the film. The Machine Girl is no exception.

The beautiful Ami Hyuga played by Minase Yashiro delivers buckets of bloody revenge for the murder of her brother by the son of a Yakuza boss and his cronies. After having her arm cut off by the Yakuza boss, Ami has a very A-Team-esc hatchet job done to affix a minigun, worthy of Jesse Ventura’s character in ‘Predator’. Armed (‘scuse the pun!) with this and a strangely good ninja technique, Ami tears through flesh and bone in the name of her murdered sibling.

Noboro Iguchi, the films director, is primarily a porn director. He teamed up with SFX guru, Yoshihiro Nishimura (Tokyo Gore Police, Samurai Princess) who also worked with Sion Sono whose new movie ‘Love Exposure’ I mentioned in an earlier post. Together, Iguchi and Nishimura go full out to entertain and provide such over the top deaths that it is fantastic fodder for laughter. Classic moments include a tempura fried arm and ninja attack gangs in power rangers style outfits. It is clear from Nishimura’s own films that he held back a bit on the imagination side (believe it or not) but the overall effect has you rolling in the aisles at the grotesque and uniquely funny images.

I assure you that you will be smiling at the end of this movie and if that is the case; next stop, Tokyo Gore Police.
