Polyester (1981)
I once made a film at college inspired by polyester and my own loony family. It wasn't very good.
Polyester on the other hand is classic Waters and Divine at their very best. It was John Waters first 35mm movie although he kept that amazingly seedy feel for which his films are best known.
The film is basically about the events surrounding a dysfunctional family. Divine plays Francine Fishpaw who's overbearing porn theatre owning husband admits to being a serial adulterer; her daughter's a slut who becomes pregnant and her glue sniffing son is suspected of being the local foot-fetish loony who is going around breaking peoples feet.
All the characters are fabulously over-the-top with Water's regular Edith Massey playing Divine's wealthy best friend Cuddles Kovinsky in her last Water's movie.
I wonder how Francine will cope??? You'll just have to watch for yourself all in glorious Smellovision!!
